Coronavirus (COVID-19)

COVID-19 VACCINE

We have limited quantities of the updated COVID-19 vaccine in the office for ages 6 months-11 years, and an ample supply of vaccines for ages 12 and up. We are currently carrying the Pfizer version for all ages. Vaccines are recommended for everyone 6 months and up and it is recommended that everyone get a booster after completing their primary series.

Please note, that we administer all vaccines to our established Farrell and South Riding Pediatrics patients only.

COVID-19 VACCINE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Some colleges and universities are requiring students to have COVID-19 vaccinations to return to campus, or to provide a medical waiver signed by a physician stating that there is a medical reason that the student should not receive the COVID vaccination.

Farrell Pediatrics encourages all eligible young people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and our pediatricians are available to discuss any concerns a patient or parent may have regarding the vaccine. If a teen qualifies for a medical waiver based on published FDA and CDC guidance, it will be provided.

At this time, medical exemptions will be limited to those who:

  • Had a severe allergic reaction to the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, or
  • Had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient of the vaccine.

If parent or patient does not want to receive the vaccine, but there is not a medical exemption, it will be necessary for the parent to direct all concerns to the university requiring the vaccine.

VISITOR POLICY

In light of current Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, we ask that:

  • Each sick patient be accompanied by only 1 adult unless absolutely necessary
    • Exceptions may be made for newborns, well child checks, and consult appointments, assuming that each adult themself feels physically well (see below)
  • Unless they are being seen in the office, no additional children be brought into the office unless absolutely necessary

If a patient’s parent/guardian is themself feeling unwell, please have a family member without symptoms of illness bring the child into the office

    • If this is not possible, please let our staff know when making the appointment so that we can take appropriate precautionary measures if needed
CAR-TO-ROOM OPTION

When you have arrived to our parking lot, it is necessary for you to call the front desk when you arrive and they will text you when your room is available to eliminate time spent in our waiting room.

A NOTE ON PEDIATRIC MULTISYSTEM INFLAMMATORY DISEASE (ALSO KNOWN AS PMIS OR MIS-C)

Although, Pediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Disease related to COVID is being heavily reported in the press, in actuality this is a very rare condition that affected a small minority of children with COVID-19. However, please be assured, your child’s pediatricians (we) are very aware of the condition and are staying up to date on how to recognize its signs and symptoms. Thankfully, it is responsive to treatment, unlike COVID in many adults.
